Darn Good Places: Create a Workshop

Create a workshop overview

As you review our website and learn more about the mindset and perspective of Darn Good Places, you get a good feel as to the types of projects or ideas that we could provide expertise in.

The most important aspect of Darn Good Places is that we are action oriented so our workshops provide the education, planning, action plan and funding source.

This can be in regards to Real Estate, Events, Pedestrian Improvements and Public Transit and beyond.

Workshop Ideas-A more educated public is a more engaged public.

Education and Advocacy

I have taught myself the inner workings of a city through necessity. When there is something I want to change I look at the city council commission and committees, neighborhood groups, city council members and policy advisors (also the City Clerk’s office is a very knowledgeable resource of all things city government).

Also this budget cycle I did a lot of studying of how the budget works, how you can work with city council members to introduce amendments for specific initiatives, how funding is raised and allocated (general funds vs. bond funds and/or capital improvements)

Civic Literacy also extends to things like advocating for improvements in your neighborhood or your street. Understanding zoning for business creation or real estate development

Events and Activations

Also research our Create an Idea Challenge. I think it is very important to have a funding source attached to an educational program.

Especially if you are a real estate developer/investor that is interested in Darn Good Places mindset for your project. This is a great way to support and build relationships with creative leaders and doers in the community.

I taught myself how to throw events for example and eventually hosted multiple festivals with thousands of attendees but you can accelerate that process by providing experienced mentors and experts and templates for how to create a large scale festival, produce a street art project or an activation like our micro retail parklet concept.

Small Scale Development

In other words neighborhood scale development. This is for first time developers that are unsure how to take the first steps into this world.

Small scale development is so important for maintaining cultural integrity of a neighborhood and supporting small business growth.

Large developments often times do not maintain the same authentic aesthetics that a smaller project can and call for higher rents which oftentimes price out more localized, small businesses.
