Darn Good Places: Events and Activations Overview
Events
I view Events and activations with both the framework of marketing and branding as well as part of the development and post development process.
Events and activations are a great way to bring people to a specific place/building/area/neighborhood and/or to showcase the functionality of a specific (fill in the blank).
They are also good for creating the right environment or vibe for launching a project/discussing city advocacy topic/building awareness for a specific cause or issue.
Events and activations are also used for marketing and branding in regard to leasing activities as well as post development in regard to building a consistent audience/clientele for your development/building habits for visiting a new area.
It is also important to note that in order to provide programming/events to a client you have to have credibility within the community of creators/musicians/event producers/artists and beyond. You provide a venue and they bring an audience.
Activations
Activations mean a few different things, this could be a demonstration project, this could be an art installation or public art project, this could be part of your community engagement process in regard to driving attention to the area by turning a vacant lot into a park or bringing improvements to a neglected alley.
Below in the past projects you will see the Parklets and Activations section as well as the East Cesar Chavez Alley Activation and Parklet Demonstration project section.
Within Parklets and Activations you will see The Pit, "The Pit: a sunken parking lot in the middle of Downtown High Point that a longtime resident showed me, so some friends and I decided to throw a party there. Below are some conceptual drawings of a modular park concept that could be rolled out for events and consolidated to still be functional as a parking lot when needed."

Parklets and Activations
Part of what got me into real estate was the experience of going to events and finding niche businesses in surprising corners of cities and then when I started hosting events, I sought out those same type of spaces which led to learning about development patterns. Also events and community engagement were important to launching new projects and ideas
