Hopfest is an important part of my career journey. After a stint soon after college living in New York City and Charleston, SC, I started an entrepreneurship venture called Your Chore Buddy (similar to Task Rabbit today). I met an ad rep at a radio station and starting tabling at events to promote my company but soon became more interested in the events themselves, so I asked for an introduction to one of the producers. After moving back to North Carolina, one thing led to another and I gathered a group of 10 young professionals and we organized our first Hopfest. I went on to do this festival 4 times with attendance growing to 2,500+

We always sought to introduce elements that showcased new ideas in urbanism. The first Hopfest was in August 2013. This is a parklet our team hand built together.
